U16s: Games against Northhampton and Nottingham Hoods

U16 blazers v Northhampton

The first quarter saw some skilful long shots even though some simple lay-ups were missed, with the Blazers being a credible 8 points up. The second quarter caught them sleeping as Northhants crept back to 26 to our 28 even with Ben Shepherd and Luke Pope scoring 3 pointers. Luckily we did not suffer a Derby 3rd quarter as The Blazers then stormed ahead, starting with a nice reverse lay-up from Naz to a 3rd quarter score of 33-49. This blaze of action continued into the 4th quarter with Luke Mallaband pulling off a perfect 3 pointers and a steady flow of shots on target saw the score rise to 43 – 71.

Blazers v Nottingham Junior Hoods

Having lost by 3 points in the first away match earlier in the season, the Blazers were determined to recoup their losses and show a side of strength. The first quarter was text book with the starting 5 powering away to a 24 – 14 lead. The 2nd quarter was highlighted early on by an arrow straight 3 pointer from Jake and a lovely dunk from Tak. This was followed up by 2 successful free throws from Tank. However the Hoods then crept back to narrow the gap 44 – 29. The 3rd quarter totally destroyed the myth of the Derby third quarter with Charlie, Reece, Forte, Naz and Tak 3 pointing, laying up and slam dunking for all they were worth. Although the Blazers had a good lead, the Hoods used the 4th quarter to creep up their score from 43 to 56; however with a nicely timed couple of baskets from Kane and Pope, the Blazers pulled up to 87. Tank pulled off a final 3 pointer to round off the final score 90-56.
