U16s Boys: Trailblazers season ends with loss to Dynamite
This was an eagerly anticipated match by both sides having won 1 apiece. The starting five were Jake and Charlie Brown, Lukes Pope and P’tak, and Naz. Jake made the first basket after a long 3 minutes, this was followed by good blocks by Naz and P’tak, a 3 pointer from Charlie, and a jump shot and an and 1 from P’tak which resulted in 10 all at the end of the 1st quarter.
In the 2nd quarter, the game sped up. Reece and Luke Mallaband took their turn on the court, and the quarter started with an early jump shot from Leicester followed by a 3 pointer from Charlie Brown. This quarter saw the 6th blocked shot by Derby, evidence of their strengthened defence tactics. With P’tak and Charlie both scoring an aggressive lay-up the score stood at 20 : 24 to Leicester at the end of the 2nd quarter.
The Blazers go into overdrive in the 3rd quarter, with each player taking their turn to score and block with Jake demonstrating his competitive nature with a powerful layup. With this relentless attack, the gap is reduced by the end of the 3rd quarter to 34:36 to Leicester.
The 4th quarter saw the team become tired and not helped by Jake gaining his 4th and 5th fouls in quick succession. Despite scoring another acceptable 14 points, the match ended with Derbys hopes of going through the to semi-finals dashed, with a score of 48 : 60 to Leicester.
